COUPLES THERAPY

Why seek couples therapy?

Relationship struggles are common as a relationship evolves and people change overtime while trying to stay together. Regardless of relationship orientation, status, or length of time together, you may be experiencing relationships challenges in the areas of emotional management, communication, commitment, intimacy or anger/conflict resolution.

You may feel your relationship derailing, and losing the spark you used to feel. You may feel like hurt, resentment and anger that is driving you apart. Or maybe you’re at an impasse, or even on the brink of break-up, separation or divorce.

Well… There is hope for working through your relationship challenges, and reclaiming the connection, joy and happiness you both desire! And I am here to help you come through this together!

Couples Therapy assists in helping you get your relationship back on track, by teaching you how to resolve difficult issues and better manage the dynamics between you and your partner. I can assist whether you are wanting pre-marital help before taking that big step, help through major life transitions together, assistance in coming to terms with past hurts, to increase your intimacy on all levels, or to get clarity on your relationship status.

Signs you should consider couples therapy:

  •         You have trouble communicating without fighting

  •         You keep cycling the same arguments over and over again

  •         You are spending less and less time together

  •         You are focusing more on work or the kids than each other

  •         You have little or no intimacy or passion in your relationship

  •         You had/are having an affair or are thinking of an affair outside of your relationship

  •         You’re separating or divorcing and would like help getting along around it (conscious uncoupling).

  •         You are planning to get married, have a baby, move in together or dealing with a major illness or loss together

  •         You want to make an already good thing even better!

How I help.

In a recent study by The American Association of Marriage and Family, 98% of consumers reported their experience with Marriage and Family Therapy as “good or excellent.” Couples also felt like they benefited from one or more techniques of couples therapy, and were highly likely to recommend Marriage and Family Therapists to their friends.

In my work with couples, I offer evidence-based therapy rooted in research-supported techniques in a warm, compassionate therapeutic environment.

I work with couples using Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT), Non-Violent Communication (NVC), Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Narrative Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), among other techniques as appropriate to the therapeutic goals we set.

I have diverse experience working with sexual diversity, addictions and cultural challenges. I am LGBTQIA allied, and welcome all LGBTQIA+ couples..

*Please NOTE: I do not accept clients who are suicidal, psychotic or have a history of self-harm.

You can improve your relationship.

It’s often very difficult for two people to see outside of their issues. Reaching out is the first step! Couples therapy can improve your relationship by helping you work through hurts and resentments, learn effective ways of communicating to replace patterns of anger or verbal abuse, and get at the root of what’s blocking your intimacy and the closeness you desire. I can guide you in building trust and deeper connection again.

I help motivated couples who are both onboard with wanting to work on the relationship. We set positive, solution-focused goals that you can both work toward together. We work to resolve whatever you bring to the therapy table, and explore how to experience more harmony and happiness together!

Relationships are challenging. But challenges are often simply messengers telling you what needs to evolve in yourself and in your relationship. Choosing to come through these challenges together can allow you to emerge out the other side with a more intimate, joyful and fulfilling relationship. It may be some work, but if you’re willing to take the steps, the rewards are worth it. I would be happy to help you get there together!
